How to GetLU
CKY
Advice for anyone traversing that treacherous road to romance
There are about 90 million singles in the United States and some 14 million in
Canada, but the search for a soul mate, a significant other, or a special someone
isn’t easy. If you find Internet dating, speed dating, and blind dating frustrating, we
suggest these timeless folklorish practices. We make no guarantees that romance
will come your way, but you might have more fun trying.
GALS:

■ Place a peeled onion under your pillow on

St. Thomas’s Eve (Dec. 20, 2007; Dec. 21, 2008)

and say, “Good St. Thomas do me right; bring my love to me this night.”

■ Throw a herring membrane (the small piece of fat from the underside of the

fish’s backbone) against a wall. If it adheres to it in an

upright manner, the husband you get will also be so; if crooked, he will be crooked.

■ Do not sit at the corner of a table,

or you will never get a husband.

■ On Midsummer Eve (June 23

in 2008), set out bread, cheese,

and ale on a clean white tablecloth

and leave the front door open.

A lover (or just a hungry male) will appear. ❤

❤❤
